My day in Dalmeny, and other things too
On Saturday I went to Dalmeny to attend the wedding of Heidi Zacharias and Carlos Estrada. They're good people, although I told Carlos that he should've scheduled the wedding on a day when the Riders WEREN'T playing. Colin and I both thought a few of the men (emotional Latinos especially) in the wedding party would cry, but they didn't. Had a good time meeting up with people I haven't seen in a long time, and took a bit of a drive around the town to see what's going on. I didn't make it back to our old house despite it being a block away, but apparently it looks quite different from accounts I've heard. The wood fence repalced with chain-link, and the big bushes in the back have been cut down. I guess privacy is ovverated?
We did, however, go to the Dalmeny Family Restaurant before the reception...I'm guessing Friends sued to gain back control over the Central Perk name. I must say, I've never heard of a Meattine before, supposedly a meatier version of a poutine. I passed and went with mozza sticks. I have no regrets.
Obligatory thesis update: 1/4 done, 1/2 done in 2 weeks or so.
Been thinking of trying something that is defintiely out of my comfort zone over the last few days...but I'll keep the specifics to myself ;)
The long weekend has allowed me to catch up on books I've been meaning to read for some time now. Bill Maher's "New Rules: Polite Musings from a Timid Observer" is taylor-made for readers with short attentions spans; it's funny and has a lot of pictures. For each letter of the alphabet, Maher comes up with new rules he'd like to see implemeted in society, or has witty comebacks for current trends. This one is my favourite thus far:
INKY DINKY DON'T
"Just because your tattoo has Chinese characters in it, it doesn't make you spiritual. It's right above the crack of your ass and it translates to "Beef with Broccoli". The last time you did anything spiritual, you were praying to God you weren't pregnant."
So apparently the Rolling Stones are playing in Regina? Since this is the first I've heard of this (rolling eyes), I wonder if I should pick up a pair of tickets and sell them on Ebay for Riders season tickets and a Playstation 3.
I work tomorrow morning. It must be an error because I thought I was too expensive to work on holidays, but I'll go in anyway.
Looking forward to the 1st day of the Ex on Tuesday: Trews, Theory of a Deadman, spudnuts, some light walking, and outta there. And I'm outta here now.
