I don't want my nickel back

Shaun and I went to go see Nickelback last night. Traffic was horrible on the way there, and we got there just as the opening band started. It actually started on time, to my surprise! Our seats weren't too shabby for being on the upper level either...

Danko Jones was the first band. Pretty cocky for a guy that opens for an opening band. I get the feeling that he feels disrespected in Canada for some reason...as if we should just blindly cheer him just because he's Canadian. Maybe I'm the only one who got that vibe. I had no complaints with his set though.

The lights went out a few minutes later, signalling that Live was up next...and wow, their stuff was set up fast. Way faster than my experiences at the Odeon! Everyone was telling me how big this band was a few years ago, but for the life of me I couldn't name one of their songs. NOW I remember them. They were cool...not something I'd buy though. My friend Landon thought they outright sucked.

Live's stuff was taken down, but nothing was being built on stage for Nickelback. Odd. Then, 20-30 minutes later, there was a huge explosion up by the stage. Then the lights went off. Guitars were playing, simulating the collective heartbeat of a crowd who were frightened by that explosion! Then, another explosion. A huge black curtain fell down, and then fire shot out of the stage!

Then, Nickelback proceeded to rock the house for the next 2 hours. Good songs, good times.

Two things to add: it bothers me when people leave their seats all night long during the songs; what a waste of money if you're not going to enjoy the show. Also, does Credit Union Centre assume that everyone who attends is of legal drinking age? The girls in the row in front of us went to the beer lines about 7 times and couldn't have been more than 15 years old. I'm glad they weren't in our row! LOL

Actually, I have one more thing to add. I've been thinking about buying a "beginner" drum set for a little while now...last night has made me want to get one even more. I've always wanted to learn, and lately I've had the urge to do something creative. Hmmm....stay tuned...

  • Danko Jones...why...oh why...does that sound so familiar. Did stereotrap play with them at some show that I didnt go to. I dunno. Bells are ringing.
I'm envious that you go to see Live and Nickelback. That's pretty sweet! I like the uh..guy who does backup vocals for nickelback. I think he also plays guitar. Could be bass though. I forget. Glad you had a good time though!
