Thoughts on C-38

I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that the gay marriage bill passed in Parliament. However, I believe that this is not the end of this story.

I don't profess to be an expert on this subject, but from my understanding, this bill recognizes gay marriage, but supposedly gives churches the right to not perform gay marriages if they so choose. Anybody else believe this right won't last for long? It won't be long until a church gets sued for not performing such a marriage, then the Supreme Court will rule that the church is violating human rights for not doing so. Such a scenario really has me worried about the state of religious rights in this country...

Why was this bill pushed so hard by the Liberal government? It's an issue I rarely hear mentioned as one of the nation's priorities...

I also think that this is an issue that MP's cannot adequately represent their constituents on. This is a question that really belongs on a ballot for the next federal election.

  • I'm glad you posted on this topic. I've been thinking similar thoughts for a few years already. Church and state are seperate..apparently...until all of the sudden someone screams "that's discrimination." It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Persecution of the church four fold perhaps? End times? Who knows.
