Something odd that may interest only me...

So here I am killing time at work, a frequent activity of mine, and I come across a can of Campbell's New England Clam Chowder. Of course, the French buff in me (which to my astonishment is surprisingly dominant) checks to see how this would be translated....Palourdres de Maine.

Why Maine in particular? I know Maine is a part of New England, but why didn't they just translate "New England" into French? Why didn't they pick New Hampshire? Or Massachew...Massachuset...the state Boston is in?

If you must, blame university for making me so darn inquisitive :)

Darn those comfort zones!

I might want to go back to school...it would be OK if I found a job in a new city...there's this girl I'd like to ask out...

The problem with following through on all these is that my current comfort zone is so warm, secure and cozy...it makes taking risks so unattractive. Maybe the weather has to get colder and the frost buildup has to be great enough to annoy me to do something about it... :)

Whoa, that was pretty deep. I apologize, it won't happen again! :D

Christmas...Extra Foods style

You know Christmas is coming when Extra Foods hands (rather, forces) out its annual puke-ugly Christmas shirts to its staff. It's a red long-sleeved shirt (groan) with a hideous looking orange and purple thumbs-up on the back.Think of it this way: it feels like wearing your pajama shirt AND the ugly sweater Grandma knit you when you were 7 both AT THE SAME TIME. And here's what really keeps me up at night: the person that designed this putrid shirt makes more money than me. Shudder...

I guess I'm going to the staff Christmas party for the first time ever in 2 weeks...I'm expecting to get pinched by middle-aged women all night. At least there's bowling and pizza.

I wonder what my Christmas gift from management will be this year. Last year, it was a free bag of fruit-and-nut cookies. I'm sorry, but I eat cookies to get AWAY from fruit and nuts. Here's hoping f0r William Shatner's CD!

WIDE LEFT

It's been almost 30 hours since Paul McCallum blew a chip shot FG that ultimately cost the Riders a chance to advance to the Grey Cup...and the shock has not yet worked its way out of my system. That game had so many ups and downs...I was absolutely giddy with excitement when the Riders scored a TD with a minute left to take the lead. My heart sank when the Lions tied it on the last play, and it was ripped out for good when the FG was yanked wide in OT. I'm a glutton for punishment, I suppose...but I'll get over it. I do every year :)

Loyal Subscriber

I've been a subscriber to Sports Illustrated for almost 10 years now, and I got another renewal notice in the mail yesterday. When you renew early, they send "loyal subscribers" such as myself a free gift. If I had renewed a few months ago, I would have gotten a SI gym bag...I already have one. If I renew now, I get a SI navy fleece pullover...I already have two. Come on! I should be in golden watch territory right about now! I'm going to put this off as long as possible and see if SI ups the ante!

PS: Anybody interested in a SI fleece pullover? Leave a message at the beep...

I'm bored, so I created a blog!

Hello one and all! It's Saturday night and I am bored out of my mind. Hmmm...so was my brother Colin last Saturday night, and lo and behold, he made a blog. Do I dare tread where millions before me have already gone and make my own blog? Well, the Rider game is on tomorrow, so that won't work. I work an awful lot this coming week, so no commitment there. I guess I'll have to make it tonight...how convienent! :D

I highly doubt that everything I write will be in any way profound or revolutionary, but there are the odd times where I get some pearls of wisdom. Alas, I have no notepad to capture these nuggets of brilliance on...and seeing that this is cheaper than buying a pen and notepad, this will do just fine. Of course, that depends on whether or not I can remember them from the time I come up with them to the time I sit down to write them.

A quick update on myself...I'm STILL working at Extra Foods and STILL waiting for something better to come along, I'm thinking more and more about going for a Masters degree, I'm reading America The Book: A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon Stewart and the Daily Show gang, and I'll be firmly planted in front of the TV tomorrow to see the Riders squash the evil Edmonton Eskimos. I think my tear stains from last week's heartbreaker in BC have finally come out of my jersey!

Stay tuned for more as more details develop...
