Yuck

Simon, I think it's a good thing that I couldn't make it out to Calgary. It would've been great to see you again...but that beating the Riders took tonight would have left me in a rather foul mood ;)

I can't recall the last time I turned a Rider game off that early. That was disgraceful. Of all the games to be ill-prepared, sloppy, and ineffective, why did it have to be against Henry Burris and the Stampeders?? Wow.

Update

After much tossing and turning and internal deabte, I've decided where I'm going to school. I'm going back to the U of S.

I felt as though the U of R had no sense of urgency whatsoever in helping me shape my program...trying to get this done long-distance absolutely sucked. I haven't had too many problems dealing with the U of S. I'm also familiar with the majority of profs, which makes me more comfortable about defending my thesis when the time comes. Plus I know someone who'll be in the same program as me! I can also keep my job and good wage, but not be there all the time like I am already!

This whole experience has taught me something. I've learned that I'm willing and ready to move, but that I don't necessarily have to. I wasn't willing 6 months ago. Plus paying tuition on top of rent, etc gave me the willies. I figure I'll be more then ready once I get my Master's. Pardon the proverb, but the world will be my oyster.

Rhi...if you're reading this...what classes are you taking? ;)

Beam him up

RIP Scotty.

He had a very fascinating life...and his comments on William Shatner are very interesting.

Regina vs Saskatoon

The official slogans of both these cities should be changed to "Currently Under Construction". The number of detours and traffic holdups in both cities is ridiculous. In Regina, they're still doing construction in an area where my aunt and uncle live...a project that was started a good 2 years ago!

I went on my first scouting trip to Regina last week to check out the campus and to look for some apartments. The U of R isn't as stunning as the U of S campus, and they're not as helpful either. I've heard absolutely nothing from them since they told me I was accepted into the Master's program. I even had to hassle them to get an quick answer to this simple question: did you get my confirmation to your acceptance letter? My advisor works 2 jobs and just went on a business trip for 2 weeks, so I rarely converse with him. I don't know what classes are being offered or even how to register for them. I'm basically on my own, which is totally unfair...unless all this independant work is a test for me, and it's for credit! LOL

The apartments we circled all looked pretty shady and in suspect areas, until our very last stop of the day. It's a one-bedroom apartment with a decent sized kitchen, lots of storage space and even a fireplace...and it's 5 minutes away from my aunt and uncle. There's so much stuff in that area...pizza places, video stores, a ton of restaurants, a hair salon, a doctor's office, numerous gas stations, and ironically enough, an Extra Foods. The only reason I'd have to go downtown would be to go see a Rider game. Needless to say, they have my name and number. This was exactly the kind of area I was envisioning a move to.

So just when I'm trying to figure out my program and a potential move, I get a email from the University of Saskatchewan. Lo and behold, they have a vacancy in their grad program and I was at the top of the reserve list. And they need an answer soon. I told them to wait.

I ask myself this question: do I want to be comfortable, or do I want to expand my horizons?

I'm familiar with the professors at the U of S and even know someone who's been accepted into their program for this year. I could also keep my job, where I make good money and where I'm the most content I've ever been there in 4 years.

I'm not familiar with the professors at the U of R and know almost nobody there. It's not even a sure thing that I can get a transfer from work. But this is the place where I'm most likely to find a job when all is said and done. And even though I'm comfortable in Saskatoon, a part of me craves the challenge of a change of scenery.

I thought I knew what I was doing, until today. I hope something will make my decision crystal-clear in the coming days. If not, can I borrow a magic 8-ball from someone? ;)

A huh? and a ha!

We had an armed guard at work today protecting the new shipment of Harry Potter books.

I howled with laughter.

My head is sore from bashing it over and over again

My kingdom for a placekicker who can make a FG inside 30 yards!

I hope Paul McCallum works out his problems, but how long can the Riders afford to wait for him? He cost us late last year in the playoffs, almost cost us last week, and he helped blow it for us on Saturday. He was a major reason why we blew that game last night.

He's blowing kicks that a freakin' walk-on university kicker can make. Field goals that I can make. Surely there are some DHS alums out there who are familiar with my kicking prowess back in the day. This makes me wonder: when I move to Regina, can I balance a master's program and kicking for the Riders at the same time? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm......verrrrrrry interrresting.

Anyonymous Rider Hater, the comment section is all yours! ;)

Freedom of the Press?

I stumbled upon this story as I was channel surfing today.

I'm confused...isn't freedom of the press one of the many virtues the United States is trying to spread across the world?

This is your face after the results of peer pressure

My friends at work thought it'd be cool to draw on my face at the staff BBQ. I agreed with them, and look at the result.

Man, I can't wait until I'm in a work environment that embraces facial hair. My face is literally itching to grow something. I'm being stifled!

P.S. My sideburns really are that long.

My name is Evan, and I have a problem

No, my passion for the Roughriders is normal behaviour ;)

The 2/$20 tables at CDPlus are strategically placed right by the lineup for the cash register. Of course, whilst I wait to pay for the CD(s) I originally go there to buy, I gaze and peruse through them and see if there's anything I recognize...and of course, there always is. That SALE label always gets me.

How can I turn down Audioslave founders Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine for that price? I can't.

At this rate, I'm gonna fill my new 60-CD rack by the end of the month.

I need help.

Thoughts on C-38

I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that the gay marriage bill passed in Parliament. However, I believe that this is not the end of this story.

I don't profess to be an expert on this subject, but from my understanding, this bill recognizes gay marriage, but supposedly gives churches the right to not perform gay marriages if they so choose. Anybody else believe this right won't last for long? It won't be long until a church gets sued for not performing such a marriage, then the Supreme Court will rule that the church is violating human rights for not doing so. Such a scenario really has me worried about the state of religious rights in this country...

Why was this bill pushed so hard by the Liberal government? It's an issue I rarely hear mentioned as one of the nation's priorities...

I also think that this is an issue that MP's cannot adequately represent their constituents on. This is a question that really belongs on a ballot for the next federal election.
